Community Outreach Programme

A day long session was organized at Karnala Bird sanctuary, off Panvel on 6th January 2016.The session was a part of community outreach programmes undertaken by IMERT. This session was organized for the three self help groups from Karnala and 2 self help groups from Phansad associated with Maharashtra Forest Department. The first part of the session focused on ‘Women Health and Hygiene’ .It was conducted by Ms.Ruchira Tapre. Several issues related to health of women like menopause, calcium deficiency, iron deficiency etc. were discussed. Post lunch, sessions were conducted by Mr.Shailesh Mulay, Office superintendent and Dr.Shriram Nerlekar, Director,IMERT respectively. Mr.Mulay shared his insights on Canteen management which he drew from his 6 years long experience of running canteen business at IT park Hinjewadi. The day long session concluded with Dr.Shriram Nerlekar speaking on Financial literacy. He made them aware about the different schemes offered by Government of India like ‘Jan Dhan Yojana’,’Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana’and Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Yojana’ .He emphasized the importance of each and every person opening a bank account in any of the nationalized banks to begin with. The highly interactive session was attended by 35- 40 women from self help groups and lady forest guards .Ms.Saroj Gavas ,Assistant Conservator of Forests, Thane region was also present throughout and felicitated Dr. Shriram Nerlekar, Mr. Shailesh Mulay and Ms.Ruchira Tapre.
